MAJOR US
...San Juan

When you say Puerto Rico, you must mention San Juan also! Sitting as the proud capital of Puerto Rico and the second oldest city in US territory, it is still to this day a major port and tourist resort of the West Indies.

The city of San Juan is parted in three areas: Old San Juan, the Beach & Resort area and the rest of the island consisting of smaller, outlying communities. Old San Juan itself is located on a small island connected to the mainland of Puerto Rico by bridges and a causeway and is characterized by its narrow cobblestone streets and colorful buildings which date back to the 16th and 17th century when Puerto Rico was a Spanish possession. This particular district is also characterized by numerous public plazas and churches.

Along with Old San Juan, the resort-filled Condado is by far the most popular neighborhood for visitors, thanks to its excellent beachfront location and fine boutiques, and therefore it is no wonder why these two sections of the Puerto Rican capital share the highest concentration of restaurants and lodging.

But there is so much more to explore, as the city extends from there both south and east, and offer explorations into beautiful beachfront neighborhoods such as Ocean Park and Isla Verde, to the up-and-coming Santurce with its numerous art galleries - to the financial district of Hato Rey, and, not to be overlooked: the college-town vibe of Rio Piedras. For nature lovers, a short, 2-hour drive out of San Juan will lead to an area that holds Puerto Rico's rarest natural resources and some of the best beaches and coral reefs in the whole of the Caribbean. The El Yunque rainforest, Luquillo Beach and the Rio Camuy Cave Park all make excellent, awe-inspiring day trips.
