St. Croix is the largest of the United States Virgin Islands a former Danish Island. The Island has been ruled by 7 different countries influencing in architecture, customs, characters and language throughout the island.
The Island has two maintowns, Christiansted and Frederiksted; each with its own distinctive style and both definitely a must see.
Christiansted was once the Capital of the Danish West Indies, founded in 1734. In Christiansted you find a lot of Danish names, cobblestone walkways, narrow streets, historical buildings as well as quaint shops with French perfumes, china, crystal and jewelry. From Christiansted you can also visit Buck Island.
Frederiksted has wide streets and a picturesque waterfront making it on of the most beautiful in the Caribbean. The city has a rich history and is weekly visited by several cruise ships turning the streets into a festival with dancers, steel bands and local food and drink. Frederiksted also has a tropical rain forest and Whim Greathouse, restored to the way it was in the 1700’s.
In St. Croix the beaches are unique, some of them with quiet coves and some with perfect dive sites. The island has fifty four sugar mills and sugar and rum has always been important products in St. Croix.
St. Croix has fine hotels, excellent dining, sights to see, a selection of other things to do and all kinds of activities.
